Scholarship Description: Mercury is emitted into the environment via natural processes such as volcanic eruptions and industrial processes in large refineries and coal fired electricity generation facilities. This PhD research project aims to deliver highly sensitive and selective sensors for the online monitoring of mercury which can operate under the harsh environments found in many industrial applications. The research project will focus on developing tailored nano-engineered metallic and bimetallic surfaces through facile electrochemical and chemical methods and studying their interaction with mercury vapour at the nano level. The positions are based at the City campus of the School of Applied Sciences through a joint collaborative project with Alcoa World Alumina (Australia) and BHP Billiton.

Scholarships are available for students who wish to study in Sweden. Funding is  awarded on a competitive basis by The Swedish Institute and  individual universities and university colleges.
For international students wishing to apply for scholarships, there are two main sources of Swedish funding available.

The Swedish Institute


The Swedish Institute, a government agency, receives funding each year to use for scholarships to international students. They have several programs available.

Please note that scholarships are only available for programmes that start in the autumn. There are no scholarships available for courses and programmes with a start in the spring.

Who can apply?
Scholarships awarded by the Swedish Institute are available to international students from specific countries. More information is available at Studyinsweden.se.

When can I apply?
Students may begin the application process on 1 December, 2010 for the autumn semester 2011.

There are no scholarships available for courses and programmes that start in the spring semester.

When is the deadline for applying?
The deadline for the receipt of your application at Study in Sweden is 17 January 2011.

How can I find my application number, which is needed for my Swedish Institute scholarship application?

Scholarship Description: This studentship will be nested within the GoWell programme, an ongoing project evaluating neighbourhood regeneration in Glasgow. The studentship is part of an exciting new initiative in ‘The Economics of Public Health’ between the University of Glasgow’s MRC/CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit and the Glasgow Centre for Population Health. The studentship will involve the identification and valuation of proposed and actual benefits from community empowerment and community development activities within a small number of Glasgow communities. The use of economic evaluation methods will be employed to generate evidence on the value of these outcomes in the context of other regeneration outcomes.
You will be supervised by Dr Emma McIntosh of the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) team at the Centre for Population Health Sciences with secondary supervision from Professor Carol Tannahill, Director of the Glasgow Centre for Population Health and Kenny Lawson of the MRC CSO Social & Public Health Sciences Unit. The successful candidate will also be provided with additional health economics training via courses run by HEHTA as well as gaining access to modules on Glasgow University’s Masters in Public Health.

- Having Thai nationality,
- Obtaining at least 2.75 GPA for undergraduate students and 3.25 GPA for graduate students,
- Proficiency in language used as the medium of instruction is required by one of the following tests,
- TOEFL score at least 213 (computer-based) or 550 (paper-based), or
- IELTS score at least 6.0 (University language proficiency test result equivalent to TOEFL or IELTS, can no more be used to apply for the DUO-Tahiland Fellowship Program) D.E.L.F. or D.A.L.F at least level B 2.

Scholarship Description: DUO-Thailand Fellowship Program 2012 aims to enhance a mobility of students between Thailand and ASEM member states in Europe on a balanced basis.
