Financial Support at Lingnan Univ. Hongkong
The University has endeavoured to provide research postgraduate students with financial assistance to enable them to devote full efforts to their studies and to facilitate their research studies and professional development.
Postgraduate Studentships
Postgraduate Studentships (PGSs) are awarded to full-time students to support their daily subsistence, tuition fees and other expenses that may incur during the course of their studies. Normally, a full-time MPhil/PhD student is assigned a full PGS. The monthly stipend for 2007-08 is subject to review. For reference, the monthly stipend is HK$11,650 in 2006-07. The award is renewable on an annual basis.
As part of the training for postgraduate degree studies, PGS recipients are required to perform, under supervision, teaching and/or research support duties of up to 12 hours per week on average for a full studentship. Recipients of PGS are required to sign an undertaking to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Postgraduate Studentships.
Conference Travel Scholarships and Field Trip Sponsorships
Two schemes are launched to provide financial support to students in conference participation and conducting field trips.
The University deems conference attendance an important part of research postgraduate students’ educational experience and professional development. With the generous support of the Lingnan Foundation, the University has established the Lingnan Foundation Postgraduate Student Conference Travel Scholarships to support our students to participate in international conferences presenting their research papers. The scholarship amount varies with the location of the conference venue and is up to HK$12,000. The conference participation facilitates students’ academic exchanges with international scholars as well as research students all over the world.
Besides, the Research Postgraduate Student Field Trip Sponsorships scheme is established to provide support for students to conduct field trips necessary for their research studies. The funding limit is HK$3,000 for an MPhil student and HK$5,000 for a PhD student. The sponsorships enable students to do archival research, interview distinguished scholars, conduct survey and collect data outside Hong Kong.
Other Scholarships
In addition, research postgraduate students are also eligible for a number of scholarships, which are normally awarded based on academic merits and recommendation of department/programme concerned.
