We offer awards totalling £250,000 every year, with each international scholarship worth £3,300. These are open to prospective full-time postgraduates in any subject area on a one-year taught masters degree. Solar technologies are extremely promising with ever-increasing output efficiency and the capability to be used in almost any location. Decreasing availability of fossil fuels quickens the need for solar technology, which is driving current developments. Solar systems are also relatively affordable and applicable to both homes and villages. Many projects capitalizing on solar power have already been implemented in developing countries, and serve as encouraging results for many more to come.
Considering the importance of solar technologies the Centre for Renewable Energy at the University of Freiburg in collaboration with the DAAD is organizing a week long course on solar technologies for rural electrification and enhancement of living standards in the developing countries. Solar Shift is intended for professionals from developing countries who have previously studied or worked in Germany. Applicants should be working in the renewable energy sector; which may include Engineering, Financing, Policy, etc. The programme will consist of lectures, workshops, group work and discussions, excursions, and social and networking activities.
Costs
The following costs will be covered by DAAD:
- Subsidized* international flight to and from Germany.
- Transport from airport to Freiburg im Breisgau.
- Transport from Freiburg im Breisgau to INTERSOLAR EUROPE 2011 in Munich.

PhD Scholarships in Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UMC Utrecht, Netherlands
We are looking for someone who has (nearly) finished a master of science program (MSc) in which statistics, mathematics, or computer science play a prominent role. Experience with programming and data analysis techniques is an advantage, as well as experience with statistical software such as R, S-Plus, Mathematica or WinBUGS. Good communication skills are required, as well as in interest in methodological research within the field of clinical epidemiology and health economics.
Your position
The research section Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts studies aiming to improve existing and to develop new methods for design and analysis of (clinical) epidemiological studies. The section focuses on the following themes: Developing innovative designs for diagnostic and prognostic (prediction) research, Developing innovative methods for quantifying the true or added value of (new) diagnostic and prognostic tests in a multivariable clinical context, Developing innovative methods for the validation and updating of so-called clinical prediction rules, Testing and improving sophisticated methods for dealing with missing values in epidemiologic research, Investigating innovative methods for meta-analysis and individual patient data-analysis of etiologic and therapeutic studies, Development of models to combine data from randomised and observational studies including genetic information, for estimating (long term) prognosis according to specific patient characteristics in addition to treatment effects. The research group Medical Technology Assessment conducts studies on the cost-effectiveness of new medical interventions, such as newly developed drugs, new surgical procedures or new screening strategies. The Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Medical Technology Assessment groups will collaborate within a new project on the development of methods to assess the actual added value of implementing new diagnostic tests. Clinical prediction rules aim to provide a probability of the presence of a disease (diagnosis) or occurrence of a disease (prognosis) in an individual. The development of such prediction models is becoming increasingly popular, and newly developed diagnostic tests, such as biomarkers, may lead to improved prediction models. However, the evaluation of those prediction models is typically limited to an assessment of their predictive accuracy. As a result, the effects of applying new, or updated, prediction models on actual patient outcomes remain unknown. Within the field of health economics modeling methods have been developed to assess the balance between costs and effects (patient outcomes) for medical interventions. In this project we aim to use and extend these methods for the assessment of the added value of new diagnostic tests. In addition, we aim to develop methods that are able to quantify the effects of replacing an existing prediction model that is used in clinical practice with a new, or updated, prediction model. A new model may provide different risk estimates for patients, for example for cardiovascular disease, compared with the old model. As a result the preferred treatment option may also change for specific patient subgroups, and methods need to be developed to identify these subgroups. We will use statistical methods and simulation models as well as empirical data on the diagnosis deep vein thrombosis, the prognosis of cardiovascular outcomes, and the prognosis of traumatic brain injury. In collaboration with epidemiologists, statisticians and health economists you will investigate methods to assess diagnostic tests in general and clinical prediction rules in particular. Results will be described in scientific papers, and published in international, peer-reviewed journals. Based on the papers you will write a thesis, at the end of the project. For this project a 3-year temporary position is available, starting with a 1-year contract, followed by a 2-year contract when progress is satisfactory. One award of up to $3,000 is available to a Stanford undergraduate students interested in completing an independent internship in Brazil. An additional summer savings offset may be available upon special application for students with demonstrated financial need. Grants are generally dispensed for summer projects, but may be considered for alternative timing as well.
Eligibility
Students must be undergraduates in good standing at Stanford with well-defined internship proposals with an organization or business in Brazil.
Students are eligible to receive funding only if they will be enrolling as undergraduates (preferred) or coterminal students at Stanford campus for at least one quarter after returning from abroad.
Internships must last at least six weeks.
Preference will be given to proposals for internships arranged independently and directly with a foreign-based organization, rather than through a large international internship company.
This funding is not for independent research projects. For a project that is strictly research-oriented and does not involve meeting the needs of an organization or business in Latin America, students are encouraged to apply for funding through Undergraduate Research Programs.
Language Prerequisite
Working knowledge of Portuguese is required.

Grant Reporting Responsibilities
The grant recipient must attend an orientation meeting before traveling abroad, complete a short report (2-3 pages) midway through their experience abroad, complete a final narrative report (5-7 pages) and final financial report (1-2 pages) after returning to the United States, and participate in a public presentation regarding their internship.

Selection criteria
- Applicants will be selected based on their previous academic career and on their Curriculum Vitae.
- The gross amount of the Verrès Campus scholarship is 10.000 Euro per year (30.000 Euro for the complete period). The exact net sum is dependent upon the individual tax conditions of each student, which can be verified only upon the arrival of the student.
- The amount of the scholarship will not be increased in case the student will need more time to graduate than indicated.
- The allocation of the scholarship is dependent upon the submission of the original documentation, which must correspond with the documentation attached to the application form (see the “Selection outcomes” section below).
- Payment of the scholarship occurs periodically. The first instalment is dependent upon the possession of the relevant documentation (residence permit, Italian fiscal code, and bank account in the name of the scholarship recipient), all obtainable upon arrival in Italy.
- Given that it is not possible to combine the benefits received from more than one scholarship, students who are assigned another study grant while receiving the Verrès Campus scholarship must promptly notify the Politecnico di Torino.
- Payment of the scholarship will be suspended if the academic performance of the recipient does not meet a satisfactory level.
- In case the recipient does not regularly attend the activities at the Verrès Campus, the scholarship will be revoked.
- To apply, students must, under the penalty of being excluded from the selection process, complete the application form:

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree and who wish to study for a Master’s degree are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship 2011/2012. The OFID scholarship will be awarded to support one student or candidate for Master’s degree studies. The applicant may be from any developing country, and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, in any recognized university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly-driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers – the cost of graduate studies. The winner of the OFID Scholarship Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000. Scholarships for our MA programmes are awarded twice per year; normally in June for students starting in September and in November for those starting in January.
Successful candidates will be registered at the University of Kent as full time students on the taught programmes stated above and will receive payment to cover 50% of their tuition fees (€7,475 in 2010/11). These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities
The University of Kent’s Brussels School of International Studies (UKB) awards seven masters scholarships. Six scholarships are in politics and international relations and one is in law. There is currently no masters scholarship in migration studies.
Criteria
In addition to possessing an offer of admission onto a UKB programme applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain, a relevant undergraduate degree at least at First Class level (UK), or GPA 3.5 (US) or equivalent.
These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.
How to apply
Once candidates have been accepted onto a programme at UKB, they should then send a letter/email to ukbschols2@kent.ac.uk confirming their wish to be considered for a scholarship and explaining why they believe that they should be awarded one.
Candidates should ensure that their application number is mentioned on their letter/email and indicate ’scholarships’ in the subject title.
The deadline for receipt of applications is as follows:
- For entry September 2011 the deadline is Friday 24 June 2011.
- For entry January 2012 the deadline is to be confirmed.
Hult MBA Scholarship for African Students
Hult International Business School is offering scholarships to candidates living in Africa who demonstrate strong leadership and decision making skills.
Scholarships will be awarded to appropriate candidates who demonstrate the potential to be strong future leaders.

The Professor Stuart Wilson Scholarship 2011, University of London
Two scholarships are available, one for an overseas fee-paying student and one for a UK/EU fee-paying student, for the full-time MA South East Asian Studies at SOAS for the academic session 2011/12.
The scholarship for the overseas fee-paying student is intended to off-set the tuition fees at the overseas rate. The scholarship for the UK/EU fee-paying students is intended to off-set the tuition fees at the UK/EU rate*. (*Please note that this scholarship does not cover the Equal Learning Qualification – ELQ fee. Due to a change in Government funding policy if you are applying for a Masters degree and already have an equivalent or higher qualification or expect to complete an equivalent or higher qualification while studying for a Master’s degree at SOAS, you will be liable to higher fees)

Candidate Criteria
- Applicants must have applied for a place to study at the School at least four weeks before the scholarship closing date in order to be considered for these scholarships.
- Applicants must normally possess or expect to be awarded a First Class Honours Degree or equivalent. Applicants with upper second class level may also apply, but will not be given preference. Students with a non-UK degree will be assessed on the basis of their references and transcripts.
- This scholarship is open to UK/EU and overseas applicants.
Candidate Assessment
- Candidates will be assessed on academic merit by an Advisory Panel consisting of three academic members, one from each Faculty. The assessment of your application will be based on the information in your application. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references, statement and other relevant information.
Scholarship Application Deadline
- Scholarship applications must be received no later than 5pm on 29 April 2011.
- Late applications will not be considered.
- Applicants must have also applied for a place to study at the School preferably four weeks before the scholarship closing date (ie by 1 April2011) but no later than the scholarship application deadline in order to be considered for this scholarship. The application for a place must be complete.
Notification of Results
- All applicants will be notified by e-mail regarding the outcome of their application, generally by the end of June. The successful candidates will also be notified by letter. If you have not heard from us by mid-July, please contact the Scholarships Officer.

The Australian National University Master Scholarships 2011 in Engineering, Information Technology and Computing
The Australian National University (ANU) offers a range of one and two year Masters by Coursework programs in engineering, information technology and computing. Two of these programs include research. In most cases, two one-year programs can be combined. This enables international students to apply for a two-year visa. Students enrolling in a combined Masters (or double Masters as it is sometimes known)are awarded two separate degrees: the first at the conclusion of the first program, and the second at the conclusion of the second program.
You need to submit an application to study an ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science program before you can apply for a College scholarship. If you have not, your scholarship application will not be processed.

Goethe Business School Scholarships 2011, Germany
Some important guidelines to consider when applying for Goethe Business School Scholarships:
- Scholarships are meant to supplement, rather than replace other funding sources.
- Scholarship amount cover partial costs of the program and may vary based on each individual profile of the applicant. The amount granted is deducted from the overall tuition prior to the start of the program.
- Applicants for the Goethe MBA or EMFA are allowed to apply for a maximum of two different scholarships as part of their application. Applicants may only be awarded one scholarship in total.
- Applicants who receive financial support from their company may not qualify for certain scholarships.
- Applicants who apply for the Goethe Business School Career Loan may not qualify for a scholarship.
- Applicants must decide within seven days from the date the offer letter is issued to secure their scholarships. Applicants who do not reply by this timeline will forfeit their scholarship award to another qualified applicant.
